Knowing it's Important

It's very important for you to be an active member of your IEP team. You are not required to attend your meetings and that means that they could meet without you and plan your life for you. Now that wouldn't be fun, so don't let that happen. If at all possible make sure you attend your meetings. Talk to your teachers and others to let them know that it's important for you to be able to attend.

Even if you don't say anything during your meetings it's important for you to be there. Hopefully you will learn how much people care about you and how much they want you to have a successful future. The goal is that they plan your future WITH you, not FOR you!

Like most people, you probably don't like it when others make decisions about you without talking to you first. There is a saying that a lot of young people with disabilities use that you can use too: “Nothing about me, without me.”
